Embrace global AI collaboration to maintain US leadership

To: Sen. Husted, Sen. Moreno, Rep. Balderson

From: A constituent in Reynoldsburg, OH

April 7

The recent Stanford study on the Global AI Index highlights the increasingly competitive and globalized landscape of artificial intelligence development. While the US remains a leading force with companies like OpenAI and Google at the forefront, other nations such as China and France are rapidly closing the gap. Notably, the Chinese model DeepSeek-R1 ranks among the top AI models globally, showcasing China's progress in this critical domain. The emergence of advanced AI models from various regions underscores the risks of isolationism, which could cause the US to fall behind in a technology pivotal to economic and strategic dominance. Embracing international collaboration and healthy competition is crucial to maintaining the US's edge in AI innovation and preventing a potential brain drain as talent gravitates towards dynamic global hubs. A myopic, isolationist stance risks ceding ground to other nations actively fostering AI development.
