Protect New Yorkers' Health Data Privacy and Safety
To: Gov. Hochul
From: A constituent in Brooklyn, NY
February 26
New Yorkers' personal health data deserves robust protections from misuse and exploitation. The rise of digital surveillance has made securing this sensitive information not just a privacy issue, but a matter of personal safety. With the growing restrictions on reproductive and gender-affirming care across many states, unfettered access to health data poses a dangerous threat. That's why I urge you to support the New York Health Information Privacy Act (A.2141/S.929). This crucial legislation would prohibit the sale of health data, require explicit consent before processing personal information, provide data deletion rights, and protect individuals from discrimination for exercising their privacy rights. In a time when personal health decisions are under attack, New Yorkers must have control over their health information to prevent potential legal actions in states that criminalize vital care. Signing this bill would solidify New York's position as a leader in health data privacy and protect residents from the misuse of their most personal information. I implore you to take action now and support A.2141/S.929 to safeguard New Yorkers' fundamental rights and ensure their health data remains in their own hands.
