I am furious that the trump administration raided Representative Ilhan Omar’s home over alleged irregularities in immigration documents completed by her father when she was a child. Omar came here as a refugee at 12 and became an American citizen at 17. Now, 26 years later, we’re supposed to believe this suddenly warrants a federal raid? What evidence of wrongdoing by Omar has actually been produced? I don’t agree with everything Omar says or does. I don’t have to. Her constituents have repeatedly elected her, and she has every right to criticize this administration without being subjected to intimidation. Meanwhile, what about Elon Musk, Kimbal Musk, and Melania trump? Kimbal Musk publicly admitted that he and Elon worked in the United States without legal authorization. Kimbal also described misleading border officials to gain entry after being turned away. The Washington Post obtained company records and testimony documenting Elon’s unauthorized employment and immigration problems. The Associated Press obtained employment records establishing that Melania trump was paid more than $20,000 for ten modeling jobs in 1996 before she had legal authorization to work. All three were adults. Their actions were their own. Unlike the accusations against Omar, these cases have documented evidence, including admissions and employment records. So where are their federal raids? Where are the investigations into whether their immigration violations affected their subsequent citizenship applications? I don’t believe anyone’s home should be raided simply for political theater. But if this administration believes decades-old immigration issues justify such extraordinary measures, why are its political allies receiving different treatment? I demand that Congress investigate the justification for this raid, require the Justice Department to account for its actions, and confront the apparent double standard. Ilhan Omar is an American citizen and a duly elected representative. Leave her alone unless there is actual evidence of a crime. Stop using federal law enforcement to intimidate political opponents.
