Texas Governor. Stop Paxton’s Political Attack on Austin Students.

To: Gov. Abbott

From: A verified voter in Austin, TX

February 3

Attorney General Ken Paxton is demanding records from Austin ISD after students walked out to protest ICE operations on January 30, 2026. Students from 14 AISD campuses participated. District staff monitored them for safety. Paxton ignores identical walkouts in San Antonio ISD, New Braunfels ISD, Pflugerville ISD, and Hays CISD (KUT, February 2, 2026). AISD Superintendent Matias Segura stated the district cannot physically prevent students from leaving campus and marked absences as unexcused. Parents report Paxton targets Austin because it’s progressive. His timing coincides with his U.S. Senate primary campaign where he seeks President Trump’s endorsement. I demand you publicly condemn Paxton’s harassment of students exercising their First Amendment rights. Students across Texas walked out. Paxton singled out Austin. AISD followed state law, ensured student safety, and enforced attendance policies. Paxton should protect all Texans instead of weaponizing his office against constituents he disagrees with for Senate campaign publicity. Stand with Texas students’ constitutional rights and end this stunt that diverts state resources from legitimate law enforcement priorities.
