An Open Letter

To: Assembly Member Clark, Gov. Hochul, Sen. Brouk

From: A verified voter in Rochester, NY

July 31

While there is a lot of controversy about ICE activities in our state, I believe one of those actions is presenting a danger to our involved citizens. ICE is a federal agency, not part of our state government or law enforcement. It is completely inappropriate for ICE agents to perform "traffic stops" on our streets and highways. Not only does it create confusion for the person being stopped, it also creates a traffic hazard. ICE agents remove motorists from their vehicles and abandon those vehicles without making provisions to secure and remove them from where they are stopped. Not only is this a hazard with the possibility of the vehicle being stolen, it is NOT consistent with established state law enforcement policies. Make ICE traffic stops illegal in New York State. Thank you.
