I write to you as a concerned constituent who believes it’s time for term limits and reasonable age limits in Congress (and perhaps other federal positions). This isn’t about partisanship — it’s about ensuring our government remains capable, healthy, and truly representative of its people. Recent events — including Senator McConnell’s fall while walking to cast a vote — underscore a broader problem: public officials should be physically and mentally fit to perform their duties. That kind of lapse reflects poorly on our institutions and is embarrassing to all Americans. But this is not exclusively a Republican concern. On the Democratic side, Senator Dianne Feinstein faced serious scrutiny over her health and mental acuity in her later years.  During her last years in office, colleagues and media raised questions about memory lapses, her ability to remember names and meetings, and diminished presence and participation.  While she had a long and distinguished career, many felt her declines showed the risks of indefinite service without mechanisms for renewal. My point is: nobody is immune simply because of party alignment. When capacity falters — at any age or in any party — we all lose. Voters deserve representatives who are in full command of their faculties and responsive to modern challenges. Term limits and age ceilings (or periodic fitness assessments) are reasonable steps to protect democracy’s integrity and ensure leadership stays dynamic. I respectfully urge you to support or sponsor legislation introducing such limits, and to push for bipartisan discussion on this topic.
