Abolish ICE

To: Sen. Booker, Rep. Watson Coleman, Pres. Trump, Sen. Kim

From: A verified voter in Somerset, NJ

January 8

I am writing as a concerned constituent to urge you to take action to abolish U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Over the years, ICE’s policies and enforcement practices have caused widespread fear, family separations, and human rights violations, disproportionately affecting immigrant communities and vulnerable populations. The role of immigration enforcement is essential for public safety, but ICE has consistently demonstrated systemic failures, including detaining individuals for extended periods without due process and engaging in practices that undermine trust in law enforcement and the justice system. Many credible studies and reports have documented these abuses, and it is clear that reform within ICE has not sufficiently protected the rights of immigrants. Abolishing ICE would allow Congress and local governments to create more humane, transparent, and accountable immigration enforcement structures that respect human dignity while still addressing public safety concerns. Many advocates and community organizations have already proposed practical alternatives focused on social services, local law enforcement, and fair legal processes. I respectfully urge you to support legislation that ends ICE as it currently exists, redirects resources toward humane immigration enforcement, and ensures that all individuals are treated with fairness, respect, and humanity under U.S. law.
