The "Big Beautiful Bill" is BAD for WV

I wanted to share some information about a topic that's been discussed quite a bit here in West Virginia, as I know there are often different viewpoints on these kinds of issues. Recently, I read an article from West Virginia Watch that sheds light on the potential impact of some proposed federal budget cuts. The article focuses specifically on how these cuts to Medicaid (our state's healthcare program for low-income individuals) and SNAP (the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which helps families afford food) could affect West Virginians. From the perspective of the advocates featured in the article, these proposed cuts would be "a really bad deal" for our state. They highlight concerns that if these changes go through, tens of thousands of our neighbors could lose essential healthcare coverage, and many families with children might lose their food assistance. Given that a significant portion of our population relies on these programs, the article argues that such cuts could also put a strain on local economies, including our hospitals and grocery stores, and increase the burden on food banks already working hard to help our communities. Essentially, the piece conveys the belief that these programs are crucial for the well-being of many West Virginia families, and reducing them could lead to significant hardship for our most vulnerable citizens. I just wanted to pass along this perspective as it offers a look at the potential local impact of these broader policy discussions. I don't fully comprehend how a representative could advocate for a path that, by many accounts, seems poised to undermine the very state they are sworn to protect
