I am writing to express my deep concern and dissatisfaction regarding several recent events that I believe undermine the values of justice, human dignity, and democratic governance in our country.
First, I am appalled by the recent ICE raids taking place in communities across the country. These raids have led to fear, family separations, and distrust within immigrant communities—including among law-abiding residents who contribute positively to our society. No one should live in fear of having their family torn apart while going to work, school, or a place of worship.
Second, the decision to deploy military forces to Los Angeles is deeply troubling. The use of armed troops to confront our own citizens sends a chilling message. It exacerbates tensions rather than resolving them and undermines the very principles of local governance and civil rights that our democracy is built upon.
Lastly, the treatment of Senator Alex Padilla this week was unacceptable and an affront to the dignity of a sitting U.S. Senator. The disrespect shown to him is not just a personal attack—it reflects a broader disregard for the voices of Latino leaders and communities across our country. This cannot be ignored or minimized.
I urge you to take a public stand against these actions. Your constituents are watching, and we are counting on your leadership to defend the values of fairness, accountability, and respect for all people—regardless of their immigration status, their place of residence, or the color of their skin.
Please do not remain silent. I ask you to advocate for oversight, demand accountability, and speak out against the normalization of heavy-handed, discriminatory, and unconstitutional practices.
Thank you for your time and attention to this urgent matter.
