Safeguard endangered species, reject President Trump's timber order

To: Sen. Johnson, Sen. Baldwin, Rep. Wied

From: A constituent in Green Bay, WI

March 4

I strongly urge you to reconsider President Trump's executive order aimed at increasing domestic timber production. Expediting permitting processes by circumventing requirements of the Endangered Species Act poses a severe threat to vulnerable wildlife and their habitats. Removing safeguards intended to protect endangered species is an unacceptable trade-off for marginally increased timber yields. Furthermore, prioritizing timber harvest over standing forests will exacerbate climate change by releasing stored carbon into the atmosphere and diminishing the forests' ability to absorb greenhouse gas emissions. This order appears to prioritize short-term economic gains over long-term environmental stability and biodiversity preservation. I implore you to uphold our nation's commitment to conservation and climate action by resisting policies that weaken environmental protections and undermine sustainable forest management practices. The risks of this executive order far outweigh any potential benefits.
