It is concerning that Elon Musk appears to be violating federal ethics rules and the Hatch Act that prohibit certain partisan political activities by government employees. As a Special Government Employee with the Department of Government Efficiency, Musk should be held to the same standards as other federal officials. His efforts to influence the Wisconsin Supreme Court race through massive spending and extensive voter outreach efforts raise serious questions about the abuse of his position for partisan ends. The integrity of our democratic processes relies on government officials remaining non-partisan and avoiding the exploitation of their roles to sway elections. Musk's actions seem to violate this core principle. Appropriate authorities should investigate whether he has overstepped legal boundaries and take necessary steps to enforce regulations limiting the political activities of federal employees. Protecting the line between public service and partisan politics is vital for maintaining trust in our institutions.
