An Open Letter

To: Rep. Franklin, Sen. Simon

From: A constituent in Tallahassee, FL

July 5

I am opposed to and horrified by “Alligator Alcatraz” and any other concentration camp that they want to throw together in Florida. Apparently it’s not even done with federal funding? It’s just a really creepy thing the governor’s into? Why would we want this? I know the cruelty is the point right now, but this is horrifically cruel. Tents in a marsh in the summer? No true facilities? Hurricane season? Flooding? The very real possibility of malaria or other diseases that won’t just stay at the camp or with the prisoners. This would be a threat to south Florida. And then the Everglades. We are besmirching its name, threatening our recovery efforts, and turning one of our biggest wild assets into a threat. How evil and short sighted. Florida relies on immigrant labor and tourism. We look evil. This will not help attract the people that our economy relies on. We are shooting ourselves in the face for the very worst reason. I hope that you will join the fight against this monstrous human rights violation.
