Demand Immediate Action to Abolish ICE After the Killing of Alex Pretti
To: Rep. Gill, Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn
From: A constituent in Argyle, TX
January 25
I am writing as a constituent outraged and horrified by the killing of Alex Pretti earlier today in Minneapolis. This was a cold‑blooded act committed during a federal immigration enforcement operation, and it reflects a pattern of escalating violence, unaccountable force, and systemic failure within the agencies operating under the Department of Homeland Security.
Pretti was a U.S. citizen, an ICU nurse, and a community member who cared deeply about people. His death is not an isolated tragedy — it is part of a broader pattern of excessive force, inadequate training, and a culture of impunity within ICE and related federal enforcement bodies. These agencies have repeatedly demonstrated that they cannot operate safely or responsibly in our communities.
I am demanding immediate action from you as my elected representative:
• Publicly condemn the killing of Alex Pretti and call for an independent, external investigation with full transparency and release of all available evidence.
• Support legislation to abolish ICE in its current form, recognizing that incremental reforms have failed and the agency’s structure has become incompatible with constitutional and humanitarian standards.
• Redirect ICE’s enforcement budget toward humane, community‑based immigration systems, including increased immigration judges, legal access, and case‑management programs proven to ensure compliance without violence.
• End state and local cooperation agreements with ICE, which place residents at risk and erode trust in local law enforcement.
• Establish strict federal limits on the use of force in civil immigration matters, ensuring that no agency can continue operating with militarized tactics against civilians.
ICE’s continued pattern of lethal force is a threat to public safety and civil rights. Allowing this agency to operate without accountability makes our communities less safe and undermines the rule of law.
I am asking you to take a public stand, demand accountability, and support the complete dismantling of ICE’s current structure. Anything less is complicity in ongoing harm.
