An Open Letter

To: Gov. Hochul, Sen. Hinchey, Assembly Member Jacobson

From: A verified voter in Highland, NY

June 6

I am a constituent writing to express my strong opposition to online age verification legislation. These laws require people to hand sensitive personal data to third party verification companies they have never heard of and cannot hold accountable. This includes government IDs, facial scans, and biometric identifiers. Recent data breaches have shown that identity verification databases are prime targets for criminals. When biometric data is stolen, it cannot be changed like a password. The risk is permanent. Public safety should not come at the cost of building vast new databases of sensitive personal information.
