Have the President stop bullying our allies: this is not the way to peace

Thank you for responding to my communication about the crisis of support to Ukraine that President Trump has created. I read your opinion piece in the The Keystone Chronicle and confess that I am appalled by your near-sighted perspectives. You refer to media reporting as “hysteria”, which fails to acknowledge the fact that The White House has been determine to tell outright lies to the American people. (For instance, President Trump attempted to rewrite history and stated that Ukraine started the armed conflict.) The media is doing its job and despite The White House’s attempts to silence the free press (see what was done to news agencies that report facts that the President would prefer to be hidden), we are learning the truth. You acknowledge that the meeting between Presidents Zelensky and Trump was a debacle, but you fail to acknowledge that President Trump and VP Vance treated a guest in their house with utter contempt and disrespect. I object to your view that the minerals deal is the way to earn support from the USA - this puts our country in a transactional perspective to international relations. We will only work with allies in return for something. Since Trump entered politics, he has managed to convince everyone that that is strength, while this reflects ignorance of how to handle diplomatic matters. Later in your piece, you state “Paper can be replaced with paper, but economic partnerships last.” I believe you are trying to ignore the economic partnership between the USA, Canada, and Mexico, which Trump called the best deal ever in his first term and proceeded to destroy early in his second term. I urge to start thinking independently and to show the moral courage that has been so scarce in your party. Stand up for what is right, rather than march in line with the desires of a president who is destroying our international partnerships and making us vulnerable to our competitors.
