An Open Letter

To: Sen. Titus, Rep. Steele, Gov. Kelly

From: A constituent in Wamego, KS

January 30

I write to you today with disgust for the so-called “bathroom bill”. I am appalled by not only the lack of humanity in the bill itself but also your total disregard for your constituents’ point of view by ramming it through without a public hearing. Passing legislation quickly to avoid public input or scrutiny is a cowardly abuse of power that you should be ashamed of. Do you know any trans people? I do, and they will face increased bigotry, discrimination and potential violence as a result of your small-minded power play. Republicans claim it is a safety measure, but provide zero basis for its necessity while increasing the possibility of violence against certain individuals. Do better. Be like Christ. Governor Kelly is included on this purely as a CC, of course. Thank you, Governor, for being a decent human.
