As both a public school teacher and a parent, I am writing to express my strong support for House Bill 134. This bill takes a bold and much-needed step by eliminating STAAR testing without replacing it with yet another one-size-fits-all assessment. Instead, it empowers local schools to evaluate students using their own standardized testing methods.
For years, the STAAR test has narrowed our curriculum, added stress to our students and teachers, and failed to provide a holistic measure of learning. HB 134 finally gives educators the flexibility to assess students in ways that reflect real learning and growth—not just test-taking skills.
I urge you to support this legislation and help restore trust and autonomy to our classrooms. Texas students and educators deserve a better, more meaningful approach to accountability.
Thank you for your attention and leadership on this issue.
