Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas.
I finally decided to investigate something that has nagged at me. I read a lot about how voters, when asked why they prefer DJT, they invariably reply, ‘I like his policies.’ That always makes me wonder what ‘his policies’ might consist of. So I turned to the source of all info, the internet.
They seem stumped too. But I found a few vagaries.
He’s the best to handle US border issues (totally debatable since the whole smacking down the best bipartisan border deal in past memory)
He wants to launch the largest deportation effort in US history (and I want a unicorn)
He's vowed to close the Education Department and promote prayer in school (OMG)
Then I thought maybe the 2024 GOP platform might include some more specific goals. Not so much. It reads like a demented letter to Santa. With exclamation points.
Although I think we can all agree on the last wish: UNITE OUR COUNTRY BY BRINGING IT TO NEW AND RECORD LEVELS OF SUCCESS
But still awfully thin on the process to do so.
Am I just mis-remembering the last Trump presidency? Was it actually a beacon of hope, inspiration, and help for the average American? Did I miss all that?
Seriously. Please explain to me what policies there were, there are, there will be that seem to ring so fondly in the minds of Trump voters? Because I absolutely cannot figure it out. Even with research.
All I remember is pandemic misery and mis-handling, misery and trauma at our border by ripping children from people looking for better lives, tax cuts for rich folk, topped off by January 6 and the gutting of women’s bodily autonomy. And chaos. Always chaos.
And there’s no lack of info about any of those ‘policies’ on the internet. Can’t say the same about any of the theoretical great Trump policies though.
Where might they be? Please share. If you can figure it out.
