Oppose the Greenland Annexation and Statehood Act

Vote NO on the Greenland Annexation and Statehood Act.
I’m an active-duty U.S. Air Force service member with 11 years of service. From a national security standpoint, annexation and “statehood” talk is not strategy—it’s a self-inflicted wound. We do not need to own Greenland to secure the Arctic. We need allies, access, and capability.
Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, a NATO ally. Legislation pushing annexation undermines Denmark’s sovereignty, disrespects Greenlanders’ right to self-determination, and signals to our partners that the United States is willing to strong-arm allies when it’s convenient. That damages credibility, complicates basing and overflight negotiations, and makes real military cooperation harder—exactly the opposite of what we should be doing as competitors expand activity in the region.
If the goal is Arctic security, there’s a serious and workable path:
• deepen defense cooperation with Denmark and Greenland’s authorities,
• expand basing access, logistics, and joint training,
• invest in infrastructure and presence to improve deterrence and response.
That strengthens U.S. forces and readiness without lighting alliances on fire.
Minnesotans expect their leaders to be tough and smart. Annexation is neither. It’s a distraction that creates new problems and solves none.
I’m asking you to:
1. Vote NO on the Greenland Annexation and Statehood Act and oppose it in committee and on the floor;
2. Refuse to co-sponsor or advance any annexation/statehood proposal; and
3. Support an Arctic posture based on alliance commitments, defense agreements, and real capability.
