It is becoming impossible to ignore that the Trump administration is deadly serious about its bizarre fantasy of conquering Greenland. These are no longer jokes or bluster—they are open, explicit threats to use military force. Let’s be clear about what that means: Donald Trump is suggesting he would send American service members into combat—to fight, kill, and die—against a NATO ally. There is no polite way to describe how outrageous this is. These are the authoritarian, Putin-style threats of a rogue state, openly floating wars of conquest against countries that refuse to submit. This may appeal to corporate interests and Trump’s billionaire donors—one of whom reportedly planted the annexation idea in the first place—but it is a war the American people do not want. It would mean attempting to conquer people who do not want to be Americans, for objectives that could be achieved through cooperation with Greenland and Denmark rather than treating them as enemies. It would waste enormous resources at the very moment when families are struggling to pay for groceries, child care, and health care. Even the threats alone are damaging the NATO alliance that has helped maintain peace and foster prosperity for 80 years! As your constituent, I am asking you to publicly and unequivocally denounce any threat of military action against another NATO state and to reject any effort to annex Greenland. I urge you to commit to supporting any war powers resolution to block such an invasion, and to support Senator Ruben Gallego’s amendment to the defense appropriations bill to ensure that no federal funds are used to attack or purchase Greenland. Enough is enough. No more forever wars. No war against our allies.
