Demand ICE Withdrawal from Cities After Fatal Shooting of Renee Nicole Good

January 8

I am writing to demand immediate action to withdraw ICE agents from our cities following the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis. This 37-year-old American citizen, mother of three, and widow was shot and killed by a masked ICE officer in broad daylight on video. The administration's response reveals a dangerous pattern that threatens the safety of all constituents. Within minutes of the shooting, Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin falsely claimed Good had "weaponized her vehicle" in "an act of domestic terrorism." Secretary Kristi Noem provided a contradictory account claiming officers were stuck in snow when Good "attacked them." President Trump posted that Good "violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer" and claimed "it is hard to believe he is alive." Video evidence contradicts all these statements, showing the officer casually walking to Good's vehicle immediately after shooting her. This coordinated disinformation campaign succeeded in its goal. Millions of Americans encountered false narratives before seeing actual evidence, creating a contested information environment where basic facts became disputed rather than agreed upon. Vice President JD Vance declared the "entire administration stands behind" every ICE officer without waiting for any investigation. The administration has demonstrated it will immediately defend federal agents regardless of circumstances while demonizing victims as domestic terrorists. As more ICE agents deploy into American streets, this pattern will repeat. When legitimate state powers initially resisted prosecuting Barbara Wien, a retired professor who made an "I'm watching you" gesture at Stephen Miller's house, House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan opened an inquiry into the Democratic prosecutor who sought to narrow the search warrant scope. I urge you to introduce or support legislation restricting ICE operations in our cities and requiring independent investigations of all use-of-force incidents. Our communities deserve protection from federal agents operating with apparent immunity and an administration that weaponizes law enforcement while gaslighting the public about what occurred.
