Budget Cuts
To: Sen. Young, Sen. Banks, Rep. Houchin

February 26, 2025
Hi, it’s me again. I think it’s important for me to let you know a little bit about me so you understand where I’m coming from. I have no kids, I’ve been lucky and privileged enough to have never been on any government assistance, and I work a full-time job. I don’t make enough money to qualify for the bogus tax cuts that rich people do, and I make enough that I have to pay a decent amount into taxes. I’ve never had a fire at my house, and I’ve never been a victim of a natural disaster. My health is pretty good, so I haven’t really had to use my health insurance too much. And yet, despite the fact that it actually takes money out of my pocket, I still want to provide my tax dollars to help others. Because I care about other people. I think all people, regardless of where they come from and who they are, deserve good things. They deserve access to good healthcare. They deserve access to good education. They deserve to be able to walk around and not be scared that they’re going to be profiled and arrested all of the time. They deserve to be able to worship who they want and how they want. They deserve to love who they want and how they want. They deserve to express their gender however they want because at the end of the day it doesn’t impact me. I want good things for people. You all talk a lot about protecting people‘s rights, but it really seems like you’re only worried about protecting your rights or a certain other group of people’s rights. I also noticed that you voted yes to the budgets. You do realize you represent Indiana right? You do realize that there’s a lot more people on Medicaid Medicare, SNAP benefits, and Social Security than there are millionaires and billionaires in this state, right? If you have any doubt, I have found those numbers for you. There’s a total of 3 billionaires in the state of Indiana and as of 2019, only 5.34% of households are identified as millionaires. As far as Medicare, nearly 18% (1,372,886 people) of the population were enrolled in Medicare as of August 2024. For SNAP benefits, 610,700 (9%) people were enrolled in fiscal year 2024. As far as Hoosier Healthwise, Hoosier Care Connect, Healthy Indiana Plan, and Indiana Pathways for Aging, 1,709,675 (24.69%) were enrolled in these programs as of January 2025. It’s almost like you’re more concerned about getting paid off by the rich people than you are about taking care of the majority of people that you are supposed to represent. I hope your decisions lead to people seeing you for who you really are and voting you out. May you have the day that you voted for.
