The IRS is currently drafting plans to cut half of its workforce. The IRS brings in revenue so any cuts actually cost money not save money. The IRS brings in 100 dollars for every 35 cents it spends. The cuts have been especially bad for the Large Business and International Division (LB&I) which audits companies with more than 10 million in assets and high income individuals. LB&I has the highest return on investment so the stark cuts are obviously not about cost cutting. Before DOGE LB&I finally was getting needed funds to hire not only revenue agents but specialized employees such as petroleum engineers, computer scientists and experts in corporate partnerships. These employees consulted on complicated returns and determined whether taxpayers properly claimed credits or tax breaks. The agency had expended a huge amount of resources to recruit and train new specialists in recent years and because of this probationary employees outnumbered full time staffers in many offices. 120 LB&I specialists out of 260 had their jobs eliminated. The results mean that wealthy individuals will face far less scrutiny when they file their tax returns. It is obvious the cuts to the IRS are not cost saving because it is where we generate income. The cuts are so the billionaires like Musk and the Heritage Foundation face less scrutiny and get away with more. Musk is obviously trying to burn evidence of his wrongdoing like when he ordered USAID to burn documents which is obviously not lawful. DOGE has also fired red team members from CISA. There have been more than 100 firings at CISA recently including those who worked for the Cyber Incident Response team which is responsible for penetration testing and vulnerability management of networks belonging to federal departments and agencies. That was the 3rd round of firings to hit CISA. It is ominous that Musk and his loyalists are penetrating government databases accessing classified information and taking it over to make cuts and erase evidence and making cuts to cybersecurity that will leave us vulnerable in the meantime. It is obvious they are doing this to not face scrutiny for their illegal acts.
