Investigate ICE Detention Abuses and Close Delaney Hall and Dilley

To: Sen. Fetterman, Sen. McCormick, Rep. Smucker

From: A verified voter in Lititz, PA

June 19

Hold public oversight hearings into conditions at ICE detention facilities and call for the closure of Delaney Hall and Dilley. The documented abuses at these facilities are not allegations — they are confirmed by hunger strikes, denied access to elected officials, and federal court orders. At Delaney Hall, a for-profit GEO Group facility in Newark, over 300 detainees went on hunger strike to protest spoiled food, physical abuse, and inadequate medical care. Gov. Mikie Sherrill and other officials have been turned away at the door. At Dilley in Texas, families report no clean water and separation from their children — one family was imprisoned for 10 months before a federal judge ordered their release. More than 6,300 children have been detained since 2025, some as young as 2 months old. Only 3% of all ICE detainees have a violent felony conviction. Oppose the expansion of private for-profit detention and demand the immediate release of children, pregnant people, elderly individuals, and anyone with serious medical needs. ICE has also stopped reporting deaths that occur within 30 days of release, gutting accountability. This requires congressional action now.
