Hi there! Firstly, thanks to Representative Hayes for keeping the pressure on impeachment.
I’d like to write briefly about saving GAO. I know there are only a few, but you *do* have constituents who work there. That markup in the appropriations committee is a continuation of the tantrum Republican reps have been pitching since GAO rulings have gone against their wishes. It’s not GAO’s fault that reality has a liberal bias. But they want to retaliate for that by destroying the agency. Congress would literally be cutting off its own investigative arm. I’m sure you know about the agency’s ROI. And that’s *without* any enforcement power. Agencies do what GAO suggests because the recommendations are thoroughly researched, evidence-based, and focused on achieving positive effects or stopping negative ones. They make sense. GAO’s legal department is the last bastion of nonpartisan opinion on the Impoundment Control Act. Will Congress let Trump run roughshod over the agencies and services that Americans rely on? It’ll be easier for that to happen without GAO. Please do everything you can to save GAO.
