I am writing as a constituent deeply concerned about the secrecy surrounding Operation Metro Surge and the actions taken by federal agents in Minnesota. When a federal operation results in mass detentions within our communities, the public has a right—both legally and morally—to know who was detained, why they were taken into custody, and where they were transported. At this point, Minnesotans have received none of that information. I am requesting that your office demand immediate answers from the Department of Homeland Security and ICE regarding: • The identities or case numbers of all individuals detained during Operation Metro Surge • The specific offenses, allegations, or administrative grounds used to justify each detention • The locations where detainees were taken, including whether they remain in Minnesota or were transferred out of state • Whether detainees have access to legal counsel, and whether their families have been notified of their whereabouts These are basic questions of due process and public accountability. When federal agents operate in our neighborhoods and remove people from their homes, secrecy is unacceptable. Minnesotans deserve clarity—not vague statements, not selective disclosures, and not after‑the‑fact justifications. As Operation Metro Surge winds down, the need for transparency only increases. The end of an operation cannot be used as an excuse to bury information, avoid oversight, or shield federal agencies from scrutiny. If anything, this is the moment when the public record must be made complete. Minnesotans deserve to know what was done in their name, who was affected, and whether the actions taken were lawful. I am asking you to use your oversight authority to demand a full accounting of Operation Metro Surge, including public disclosure of the above information and a clear explanation of the legal basis for the operation itself. Our communities cannot be expected to trust federal agencies that refuse to provide even the most fundamental facts about their actions. Transparency is not optional in a constitutional democracy. I look forward to your prompt response and to seeing your office take an active role in securing these answers.
