I just read the article "I’m the Mayor of Minneapolis. Trump Is Lying to You." (https://www.nytimes.com/2026/01/08/opinion/minneapolis-ice-agent-shooting-trump.html) and I am deeply disturbed by the horrific murder of Renee Nicole Good by ICE agents and the propaganda defending this act. These actions, along with the federal refusal to allow Minnesota officials to investigate are reprehensible actions that must be denounced by all Americans.
The administration's defense of this avoidable shooting sends a dangerous message: if you stand up for civic rights they will not only not be protected, but your life is also at risk. This is unacceptable.
Government agents must be held accountable and those who wield lethal force should be held to the highest standards of conduct. The actions of ICE agents in this case must be condemned, and those involved in the killing and myopic defense of it need to be removed from any official capacity immediately.
You must increase oversight of ICE operations and take necessary action up to and including completely wiping the agency clean and rebuilding from the ground up with a culture of protection of citizens and human life and dignity at the forefront.
The deployment of heavily armed agents in public areas has led to deadly outcomes in our communities. Furthermore, the administration's narrative vilifies immigrants, their supporters, and even innocent passers-by which decimates community relations and trust.
We need to address these reprehensible dysfunctions as well as the misinformation being spread by federal officials, as it misrepresents the victim's actions and further exacerbates tensions.
Please take immediate action to address this terrible injustice and restore integrity to our justice system.
