I’m writing as a constituent to urge you to support policies that protect and expand access to COVID-19 vaccines. Recent changes to federal vaccine recommendations and health insurance coverage are putting vital protections out of reach for too many Americans, especially those in high-risk and underserved communities.
Access to COVID-19 vaccines must be safeguarded for the following reasons:
• Health equity matters. Reducing vaccine access will worsen health disparities, especially in historically marginalized communities. We must ensure vaccines remain easily available to everyone, regardless of income or insurance status.
• Vulnerable populations remain at risk. Pregnant people, young children, seniors, and those with chronic conditions still face significant dangers from COVID-19. Vaccines are a proven tool to prevent severe illness and save lives.
• Public trust in health guidance is at stake. Sudden rollbacks in vaccine policy can erode public confidence. We need consistent, science-based health recommendations that people can rely on.
• Insurance barriers must be addressed. As federal recommendations shift, many insurers may stop covering the cost of vaccines, leaving millions without access to a crucial preventive measure.
• We have a moral and public health responsibility. Maintaining widespread access to vaccines is essential to limiting the spread of the virus and preventing the emergence of new variants.
I urge you to advocate for strong public health infrastructure and legislation that ensures equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines for all, including through Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance.
Thank you for your time and commitment to public health.
