I am writing to you not just as a constituent, but as someone who has been deeply troubled and personally affected by what is happening in our country. The recent deaths of Alex Pretti and Renee Good, both killed during immigration enforcement actions, have shaken my sense of safety and justice. These were real people with families, friends, and lives — not statistics — and I cannot stand by while federal enforcement practices put everyday members of our communities at risk. What happened in Minneapolis is unacceptable. I know others across the country feel the same urgency for change. Our communities deserve protection, dignity, and law enforcement that respects rights and human life rather than fear and harm. I urge you to support a revised Department of Homeland Security appropriations bill that includes the following safeguards: • Zero additional funding for ICE and Border Patrol • Withdrawal of ICE and Border Patrol enforcement operations from Minneapolis and similar community deployments • Clear protections for “sensitive locations” like hospitals, schools, houses of worship, and daycare centers • Limits on enforcement actions based on race, language, accent, employment, or mere presence in a neighborhood • An end to warrantless home entries and arrests by immigration agents There must be real limits and accountability before any funding is approved. I simply cannot accept business as usual when it comes to federal enforcement actions that terrorize people and communities rather than keep them safe.
