Challenge unlawful freeze on federal funding, protect vital programs

To: Sen. Padilla, Sen. Schiff, Rep. Khanna

From: A constituent in Santa Clara, CA

January 28

The recent directive from the White House to pause all federal grants and loans is deeply concerning and will have widespread ramifications across numerous sectors. This freeze threatens to disrupt critical programs that millions of Americans rely on for education, housing assistance, disaster relief, and access to healthcare. It places crucial services at risk, from childhood cancer research to food assistance for seniors to support for domestic violence survivors. Even a temporary lapse in funding could be devastating, potentially costing lives. Moreover, this unilateral action appears to overstep the constitutional authority of the executive branch by undermining Congress's power of the purse. The White House does not have the legal right to withhold funds that have been duly appropriated by Congress. This move sets a dangerous precedent that violates the principles of checks and balances. I urge you to take immediate action to challenge this unlawful directive and ensure the resumption of funding for essential government programs. Partisan politics must not be allowed to jeopardize the well-being of your constituents and all Americans who depend on these vital services. It is your duty as a legislator to uphold the Constitution and protect the interests of the people you represent. Please act swiftly to hold the administration accountable and prevent further damage from this reckless freeze on federal spending. The consequences of inaction could be catastrophic for our communities.
