Trump isn't the only threat to freedom. Our continued dehumanizing of Palestinians is soul-crushing, no matter how much we smile while dropping bombs on them. So many good things being said at the DNC this week, so many exciting and encouraging and hopeful things, but they are made horrific by the ongoing sales of weapons to an internationally recognized war criminal. It's like the Capitol in the Hunger Games to watch this DNC knowing that we are still killing thousands of Palestinian children and families. It's a special kind of cognitive dissonance to watch people on both sides of the aisle go at each other in the name of 'saving America,' but unite in their support of genocide. It would be a lot more supportive of asylum seekers and refugees if we stopped arming the wars which made them need to flee in the first place, if we invested in renewable energies and restoring the planet to health instead of putting most of our budget into explosives of every size. Our cop cities are training military offense to IDF and civilian police who use those terror tactics against civilians here as much as they do abroad. It's been a century since our taxes started being collected across the board to pay for war, don't we get a break, don't we get to build anything instead of this constant destruction and terror? America is home to the world, right? Well, what good is it to dehumanize certain browner parts of the world while arming the guys who look most like the king we rebelled against in order to have this country as our own in the first place? If your ticket is going to call us to our better natures, hadn't we better practice what that looks like? Full, permanent ceasefire is long overdue. Your grandchildren will be running for office before the cleanup in Gaza is physically complete, and their great grandchildren might see the day that emotional and spiritual burden has been given a chance to begin healing, if our planet survives us that much longer. Practice what you preach. Ceasefire now.
