Support SB4214 to Halt AI Data Center Construction Until Safety Laws Exist

To: Sen. Hickenlooper, Rep. DeGette, Sen. Bennet

I'm asking you to support SB4214, the Artificial Intelligence Data Center Moratorium Act. This bill stops construction and upgrades of AI data centers until Congress passes real safety legislation. We're building massive AI infrastructure without any safeguards in place, and that's reckless. Right now, everyday people are paying the price: higher energy and water bills, greater stress on local utilities, and the risk of shortages—while corporations like Google, Amazon, and Microsoft continue to earn billions. This is unfair and unsustainable. Many people including technology leaders have warned about AI dangers, yet we keep expanding capacity with no plan to protect the public. This moratorium creates the pause we need to get safety frameworks right before we're locked into infrastructure that amplifies risks we don't yet understand. The tech industry will claim this hurts American competitiveness, but leading in dangerous technology is irresponsible and dangerous to our society, economy, and environment. We need a way to thoughtfully lead in AI development. SB4214 gives Congress time to craft comprehensive safety legislation without the pressure of new data centers coming online every month. Once proper safeguards and regulations exist, then we can terminate the moratorium and construction can resume responsibly. Vote yes on SB4214. Public safety must come before the AI industry's expansion timeline.
