86% of Texans Reject School Voucher Schemes — Vote No!

To: Gov. Abbott, Lt. Gov. Patrick, Rep. Flores, Sen. Zaffirini

From: A verified voter in Austin, TX

April 14

I am writing to urge you to oppose Senate Bill 2. This bill is a dangerous voucher scheme that threatens to take billions from Texas public schools—$5 billion by 2030—forcing local governments to raise property taxes just to keep schools functioning. That’s not “school choice.” That’s a backdoor tax hike that hurts students, teachers, and taxpayers across the state. Texans don’t support this. A recent poll shows that 86% of Texas voters oppose vouchers that would increase property taxes to fund private school tuition. SB 2 would divert public money to private institutions that don’t follow the same rules or accountability standards as public schools. Our communities have made it clear: we want strong public schools, not public dollars funding private interests. Public schools serve 5.4 million Texas children. Every dollar sent to unregulated private schools is a dollar taken from students, classrooms, and teachers already stretched thin. I ask you to reject SB 2 and protect our public education system. Texans deserve transparency, accountability, and investment in the schools that serve us all. Vote no.
