think the bigger question is how much more Musk needs to get from Trump. I really do think he’s setting up for the ultimate power grab here, and Trump is the “useful idiot” to get him there. There is so much in their interactions that shows Musk is emerging as the Alpha male. Little things like ditching the little red MAGA hat and sporting a black version instead. That red hat was Trump’s signature, and Elon usurped it. The recent Cabinet meeting where it was reported that various Cabinet secretaries were grumbling about Musk and Trump shot them down. Musk has been able to bypass the normal chains of command in the various departments and order the employees around or fire them without process; he isn’t just doing this because he can, but because he’s seizing control of the decision making within departments and taking that from Trump and his appointed representatives. And perhaps one of the most telling was the infamous meeting in the Oval Office with Musk and Trump. If one thinks the observables from that came about accidentally, it is a a naive perspective of how such meetings go. These are highly orchestrated with all details considered. Musk standing while Trump was seated was not by accident - Musk was taking away Trump’s height (and mass) advantage, making him look small. Musk’s son wasn’t there because it was Take Your Kid to Work Day, but as a way of de-emphasizing the importance and dignity of the Oval Office itself, showing that Musk wasn’t awed by the office. And Musk’s wearing of a tee shirt and black hat was again showing his dominance of the situation. Musk has worn suits before, including at the inauguration, so his outfit was deliberately chosen to show his irreverence at Trump. Trump’s body language throughout that Oval Office session was very revealing. He sat there hunched while Musk and his son took over. He looked like a pathetic little man plopped onto a chair and told to keep quiet while the grownups talked. Musk has shown time and again that he loves disruption and dictatorial control. He’s built a number of successful and very valuable companies this way, and he is not in it for the money. He’s not there to just get some better tax breaks, or favorable SpaceX contracts. He’s conquered the automobile and spacecraft businesses, and is now after the biggest prize of all. Trump is just a tool to get him there. Through Trump, the Constitution can be neutralized. Through Trump, the checks and balances offered by Congress, courts, military and justice departments can be co-opted. And then there is nothing really standing in his way to completely take over. Are you representatives going to allow this to happen?
