The Trump administration's plan to cut over 80,000 employees from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is deeply concerning and threatens to undermine the quality of care and services provided to our nation's veterans. Downsizing the VA workforce to pre-2019 levels would be a significant setback, stripping resources from an agency that has seen increasing demand as more veterans seek care, including those impacted by toxic burn pit exposure under the PACT Act. The VA experienced record service levels last year, reaching over 9 million enrollees and delivering more than 127 million health care appointments. Cutting staff on this scale risks compromising the VA's ability to meet the growing needs of our veteran community effectively. Reducing the workforce could lead to longer wait times, fewer available services, and a diminished overall quality of care for those who have served our country. I urge you to reconsider this misguided plan and instead prioritize strengthening the VA to ensure our veterans receive the high-quality support and services they have earned and deserve. Our commitment to those who have sacrificed for our nation should be unwavering, and dismantling the VA's workforce would be a disservice to that sacred obligation. Please protect the VA's capacity to care for our veterans and reject efforts to downsize this critical agency through harmful staffing cuts.
