Signal chat leak: Demand independent inquiry, restore accountability

To: Sen. Hyde-Smith, Rep. Ezell, Sen. Wicker

From: A constituent in Petal, MS

April 16

The Signal group chat leak exposing top officials discussing details of an impending military strike in Yemen is deeply concerning. Rather than take accountability, the administration has responded with lies and obfuscation, treating it as a mere media event to be spun. This disregard for national security protocols compromised operational details and put troops at risk. However, the administration seems intent on avoiding any real consequences or investigations, framing it as a media lapse rather than the major breach it is. This lack of transparency erodes public trust in our national security institutions. An independent inquiry is urgently needed to ensure the integrity of classified information and to hold officials accountable for such alarming negligence. Sweeping this scandal under the rug will only enable further lapses that could endanger American lives and interests. We urge you to use your authority to establish a thorough, non-partisan investigation into the Signal chat leak and the administration's response. Protecting state secrets and operational readiness from political self-preservation must be a top priority. Unchecked, this incident sets a dangerous precedent undermining national security norms. Decisive action is required to uphold the rule of law and restore faith in the responsible handling of classified materials at the highest levels.
