I used to be a stalwart supporter of President Biden; ever since he began his campaign for 2020. I had my misgivings about his age when he announced for 2024, but I assumed we Democrats had a backup plan, and that Joe would yield to Kamala if he needed to. I thought, “only narcissists like Trump try to stay in power for selfish reasons.” And yet, here we are, almost sure to lose against a post-truth populist who is a raging narcissist and a direct threat to the rule of law and fabric of American society. Joe Biden, instead of leading the charge, has become a cause of extreme concern and a stubborn obstacle between us and winning in November. I have no doubt that, for the moment, Joe is still capable of governing effectively. That is not the problem. The problem is how he acts and looks in the public eye. He looks old and feeble. Every gaff he makes, every odd stare, every open-mouthed pause, is and will be attributed to his age. There is no longer any possibility of correcting this impression, even for long-time supporters like me. There is no more time to waste on President Biden’s stubbornness. He needs to yield the incumbency to Kamala Harris. If she can manage to be herself, the successful criminal prosecutor that she is, and not be misguided by her staff as she was in the 2020 debates, I am certain that we can win the November election as the party of stability, care and law & order. Please Uncle Joe, stop gaslighting us on your age and the economy. People know whether they are making ends meet and they see you on their TVs with their own eyes. Yield the incumbency now. Be my hero, and a hero to millions of other present and future Americans. Show us how and why, in our country, we yield power peacefully and condemn those who hold on to it for selfish reasons.
