As I am sure you are very aware, more than 90% of the Venezuelans who were illegally kidnapped and trafficked by the Trump administration to the El Salvador prison camp were not accused of any crimes at all. Those who had criminal records were mostly low level and benign. These were not deportations. These were illegal disappearances with no due process.
AND JUST TO BE CLEAR, EVEN IF 100% OF THE PEOPLE SENT TO EL SALVADOR WERE ACCUSED OF CRIMES, THEY STILL HAVE THE FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT TO DUE PROCESS AND SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN TRAFFICKED TO A FOREIGN PRISON CAMP. YES, THE VAST MAJORITY ARE INNOCENT BUT EVEN IF THEY WEREN’T, OUR CONSTITUTION DOES NOT SAY THE PRESIDENT GETS TO DISAPPEAR YOU TO AN OFF SHORE CONCENTRATION CAMP.
Now, Trump has endorsed sending US citizens to El Salvador gulags. All Americans and those within our borders (citizens, residents, new arrivals, and otherwise) have the right to due process. As soon as one group loses that right, so do we all.
Every single person illegally sent to El Salvador deserves to be rescued and returned to the US immediately. Every single person in the Trump administration who had a role in these human rights violations deserves to be prosecuted and put in jail (in America. After going through the criminal justice system. Because that is how things are supposed to work in our country).
Bring them home.
