Halt White House App Mandate: Prevent Cyber Threats & Executive Overreach

To: Sen. Cruz, Rep. Doggett, Sen. Cornyn

From: A constituent in Austin, TX

May 24

I am writing to urge immediate oversight to halt the White House directive mandating the automatic installation of "The White House" mobile app on millions of government devices. While this administration may have its reasons, this mandate sets a dangerous precedent for executive overreach that the Left will inevitably weaponize against conservatives under a future administration. If the executive branch establishes the right to force public-facing software onto government equipment today, we hand a dangerous tool to future left-wing presidents. A progressive administration could use this exact precedent to force partisan narratives, regulatory overreach, or unvetted tracking software onto the devices of millions of employees at the taxpayer's expense. Furthermore, this mandate poses a severe national security threat. Mass-deploying a commercial, public-facing application onto secure federal networks bypasses standard, rigorous defense-level IT vetting. Security researchers warn that this app shares user metadata and IP addresses with third parties, creating potential backdoor access behind agency firewalls. This creates an unnecessary vulnerability that hostile foreign adversaries like China or Russia could easily exploit to breach our federal infrastructure. As my representative, I urge you to defend the separation of powers, protect federal networks from cyber threats, and stop this dangerous precedent before it can be abused by a future administration. Please initiate immediate committee oversight and demand answers from the federal CIO.
