Protect Delawareans: Require Judicial Warrants for ICE Cooperation

To: Rep. Lambert, Sen. Seigfried, Gov. Meyer

From: A constituent in Claymont, DE

August 3

We have been watching in shock and fear as Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) agents continue to kidnap parents, destroy families, and kill innocent people across our country with impunity. While Delawareans have not (yet) suffered any ICE-related deaths, incidents in our state have escalated, both in number and intensity. What’s worse, Delaware state and local agencies are collaborating with ICE unnecessarily: • In Laurel DE, police sent addresses associated with Haitian immigrants to the FBI, despite there being no warrant compelling them to do so • Camden, DE secretly entered into a 287(g) agreement that allowed ICE to take on some immigration enforcement responsibilities • In Seaford DE, local law enforcement assisted in moving the vehicle a man was hiding underneath so that ICE agents could detain the man, even though ICE had no warrant to detain him. Without further action, the irreparable harm done by ICE will continue to grow across our state. I implore you to strictly limit Delaware law enforcement collaboration with ICE, including prohibiting Delaware law enforcement and state agencies from sharing any information with ICE without a valid judicial warrant or court order. These actions are desperately needed to ensure Delaware remains a safe place for everyone.
