Uphold rule of law, facilitate Ábrego García's return

To: Rep. Veasey, Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz

From: A constituent in Dallas, TX

April 15

The Trump administration's refusal to comply with the Supreme Court's order to facilitate the return of Kilmar Ábrego García to the United States after his wrongful deportation raises grave constitutional concerns. Defying a direct judicial mandate erodes the foundational principle of separation of powers and rule of law that underpins our democratic system of government. Failure to rectify this blatant executive overreach would set a dangerous precedent that could undermine the checks and balances vital to preserving our civil liberties. Ábrego García, who had lawful protected status, was erroneously deported to the notoriously harsh conditions of a Salvadoran mega-prison despite a court order prohibiting his removal. The government's subsequent arguments that it is not legally obligated to secure his return due to purported "foreign relations" considerations are unpersuasive and appear to be post-hoc rationalizations. The judiciary has the authority to direct the executive branch to remedy violations of individuals' constitutional rights. Respect for judicial authority and adherence to court orders are essential for maintaining public trust in government institutions and the justice system. Allowing this contemptuous conduct to stand unchallenged would grievously undermine that trust and the nation's commitment to due process and equal protection under the law. Urgent action must be taken to uphold the rule of law and bring Ábrego García back to the United States in accordance with the Supreme Court's clear directive.
