Formal Request for Investigation of Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01)

To: Sen. Ernst, Rep. Nunn, Sen. Grassley

From: A verified voter in Des Moines, IA

April 21

Dear Members of the House Ethics Committee, I am writing as a concerned American citizen to formally request a full and transparent investigation into the conduct of Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA) regarding her housing arrangement in Washington, D.C. According to reporting published on April 13, 2026, by Iowa Starting Line, Rep. Miller-Meeks rented a Capitol Hill apartment from two registered lobbyists — Carlyle Thorsen and James French — whose firm, Thorsen French Advocacy, received approximately $1.8 million to lobby Congress on behalf of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA). This arrangement raises serious ethical concerns on multiple grounds: 1. Failure to Disclose. Rep. Miller-Meeks certified her 2023 and 2024 House financial disclosure reports as “true, complete, and correct.” Neither filing references the rental arrangement, the names of her landlords, nor the Capitol Hill apartment. This omission may constitute a violation of the Ethics in Government Act and House disclosure rules. 2. Conflict of Interest. Rep. Miller-Meeks sits on the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Health and chairs the Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Health — committees with direct jurisdiction over pharmaceutical policy. Renting below-scrutiny housing from lobbyists paid by PhRMA while making legislative decisions affecting the pharmaceutical industry represents an unacceptable appearance — and potential reality — of improper influence. 3. Pattern of Pharma Ties. Rep. Miller-Meeks has accepted over $264,000 from the pharmaceutical industry throughout her career. She previously drew public outcry for accepting a donation from Eli Lilly’s PAC on the same day she voted against capping insulin prices for seniors. The American people deserve to know whether this housing arrangement constituted a benefit — disclosed or undisclosed — from a regulated industry that directly benefits from her committee votes. The integrity of Congress depends on full transparency and accountability. I respectfully urge the Committee to: • Open a formal investigation into Rep. Miller-Meeks’ compliance with House financial disclosure requirements • Determine whether the rental arrangement constituted an improper gift or benefit under House ethics rules • Refer findings to the Department of Justice if criminal violations of disclosure law are discovered The public trust demands nothing less. Sincerely,
