I am writing as a concerned citizen regarding the recent statement from the Speaker of the House implying that the president is not required to follow current rules or judicial rulings.
This sentiment is deeply troubling. Our nation was founded on the principle that no one—not even the president—is above the law. In fact, this very issue played a major role in the Revolutionary War, when our ancestors rejected the rule of a king who was above the law and governed without accountability.
The rule of law is a cornerstone of our democracy. It ensures fairness, accountability, and trust in our institutions. Any suggestion that the president or any other public official can ignore legal obligations is a dangerous departure from the ideals our nation holds dear.
I ask for clarification on this statement and urge you to reaffirm our commitment to the rule of law. We must preserve the integrity of our democratic system by ensuring that all officials—no matter how high-ranking—are held accountable to the same laws as every other citizen.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter. I look forward to your response.
