President Trump's claim that Russia's deadly missile strike on Sumy which killed at least 35 civilians was "a mistake" appears to be a blatant lie and attempt to make excuses for Moscow's actions. The indiscriminate attack clearly targeted populated areas and shows Russia's disregard for civilian casualties. Trump dismissing it as a mere "mistake" downplays the severity of this war crime and acts of aggression against the Ukrainian people. His statement contradicts Russia's own admission that Sumy was deliberately struck to hit alleged "Ukrainian military chiefs with their Western counterparts", further exposing Trump's remark as an outright falsehood likely aimed at protecting his ties to Putin's regime. It is unclear why Ukraine is being blamed for the illegal Russian war and occupation of its territory.
