I am writing as a constituent from Columbus, Ohio, deeply concerned about the proposed tax cut extensions that could add $4.5 trillion to the deficit while forcing cuts to essential programs like Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). I support tax relief that grows the economy, rewards work, and strengthens families—but not if it comes at the expense of the very people who drive Ohio’s economy: working families, seniors, and small business owners. Fiscal responsibility means making smart choices, not just cutting taxes at any cost. Past tax cuts that disproportionately benefited billionaires and large corporations did not pay for themselves—instead, they ballooned the deficit. Now, there is talk of offsetting these costs by cutting programs that keep seniors in nursing homes, ensure children have access to healthcare, and help working families put food on the table. That is not conservative governance—that is short-sighted policy that weakens the workforce and burdens state budgets. Ohioans are hard workers who believe in personal responsibility, but no amount of hard work can make up for the loss of critical healthcare and food assistance when wages have not kept pace with inflation. Cutting Medicaid funding would hurt rural hospitals and emergency services, pushing more costs onto states and taxpayers. Pulling SNAP benefits from working parents means more strain on local charities and churches. These policies don’t reduce dependency—they create instability and increase costs elsewhere. I urge you to take a stand for responsible tax policy that prioritizes Ohio families, not just billionaires and mega-corporations. Please reject any tax plan that leads to cuts in Medicaid and SNAP, and instead focus on policies that promote economic growth without jeopardizing the most vulnerable among us.
