I urge you to reject the anti-transgender resolution proposed by Rep. Mace that seeks to ban transgender members of Congress and staff from using bathrooms that align with their gender identity. This discriminatory measure is based on misinformation and fearmongering rather than facts. There is simply no evidence that allowing transgender people to use appropriate facilities poses any risk to safety or privacy. Thousands of schools, businesses, and government institutions across the country have successfully implemented inclusive bathroom policies without issue. Rep.-elect Sarah McBride was elected by the people of Delaware to represent their interests in Congress. Attempting to marginalize her and deny her basic dignity betrays the values of equality and fairness that our democracy is founded upon. I ask that you stand against this harmful resolution and instead focus your efforts on substantive issues that meaningfully improve the lives of all Americans, regardless of gender identity or expression. Discriminating against a duly elected representative sets a dangerous precedent and sows further division. Please reject this resolution and treat Rep. McBride with the respect she deserves.
