An Open Letter

To: Sen. Johnson, Gov. Abbott, Lt. Gov. Patrick, Rep. Bowers

From: A constituent in Mesquite, TX

January 25

I am writing to inform you, as a constituent, that I will not be voting for you in any future election due to your continued support of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Your support for ICE places you on the side of an agency that has repeatedly violated constitutional protections, including due process, protections against unlawful search and seizure, and the basic civil and human rights of countless individuals. ICE’s record includes racial profiling, warrantless arrests, indefinite detention, family separation, and the killing of innocent civilians. This is not a policy disagreement—it is a fundamental moral and constitutional issue. By continuing to support and legitimize ICE, you are endorsing an agency that operates with broad impunity and routinely disregards the Constitution it is supposed to uphold. That is incompatible with the responsibilities of any public official, especially a governor sworn to protect the rights of the people. For that reason, you no longer have my support. I will actively vote against you and in favor of any candidate who supports defunding ICE and pursuing immigration policies grounded in due process, transparency, and human dignity. My vote will go to leaders who defend the Constitution, not those who enable its erosion.
