Time to Tax Campaign Contributions

To: Sen. Ernst, Rep. Feenstra, Sen. Grassley

From: A constituent in Council Bluffs, IA

June 30

I believe it's time to reconsider how campaign contributions are treated under our tax laws. Today, individuals and organizations can spend enormous sums to influence elections while many important public needs remain underfunded. I support taxing campaign contributions and directing that revenue toward programs that benefit all Americans, such as strengthening Social Security and Medicare, improving veterans' services, expanding affordable housing, and investing in education and infrastructure. Those who choose to spend large amounts to influence our political system should also help support the communities we all rely on. Whether you agree or disagree with this proposal, I hope we can have an honest conversation about creating a tax system that better reflects our nation's priorities and helps fund programs that improve the lives of everyday Americans.
