STOP SMR ADVANCEMENT NOW

To: Sen. Weber Pierson, Asm. Boerner, Gov. Newsom

From: A constituent in San Diego, CA

May 15

Small Modular Reactors (SMR's) may be the last thing on your mind. What with the price of gas and food and basically anything transported anywhere. But, any of these things pale against Radioactive contamination of your food and water. The mechanisms that drive this scenario are now barrelling ahead full speed. What are SMR's? They are simply reduced versions of the same constructs that decimated Three Mile Island, Fukushima and Chernobyl; this name is deceptively less ominous. Radioactivity is radioactivity. Ten years ago, less than 3% of the World's water was drinkable (READ). Now, moneymongers, with no interest in us whatsoever, act completely disconnected from the amount of water SMR's use to cool their reactors. This used water, poured down our sewers, can make its way to our oceans. Do we need that? Our government has shredded long-standing safegards to protect us. The precedent set by shoving the SMR's down our collective throats is beyond unthinkable. Each one that's built, they'll use to showcase how "safe" it is, speeding forward building more. Careless to the devastation each one can cause; untold numbers of people and acres. Every man, woman and child is a victim of the merciless power pursuit. But, as maddening as it is, it's critical to KEEP YOUR ANGER IN CHECK. Anger benefits no beneficial purpose. It will try to strip you of your reason. Don't let it. Focus your energy on productive SMR refusing. Before everything is unliveble for any price. All victims are equal, and no victim is more equal than another. No one wants to wait for the nuclear disasters SMR's pose to find how equal they are.
