Opposition to S.128 – The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act
To: Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz
From: A constituent in Wylie, TX
February 9
I am writing as a concerned constituent to strongly oppose S.128, the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. While I fully support election security, this bill would impose unnecessary and harmful restrictions that risk disenfranchising eligible American voters.
By requiring documentary proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in federal elections, this bill creates a significant barrier for millions of law-abiding citizens. Many Americans—especially the elderly, low-income individuals, rural residents, and women who have changed their last names—do not have immediate access to documents like passports or birth certificates. Obtaining these documents can be costly and time-consuming, potentially preventing eligible voters from exercising their constitutional rights.
There is no evidence of widespread noncitizen voting in federal elections to justify these restrictive measures. Federal law already prohibits noncitizens from voting, and existing safeguards ensure election integrity. Instead of making it harder for Americans to vote, we should focus on improving access while maintaining security.
I urge you to vote against S.128 and reject any effort to suppress voter participation. Please stand up for free and fair elections by opposing legislation that unnecessarily burdens eligible voters. I would appreciate a response outlining your position on this critical issue.
Thank you for your time and service.
